There are many sites on the web - too many to list.
Software? It all depends on what your goal is. There are three ways you can go:
Some of the more popular / useful apps are:
There are others, but those are the biggies. However, your post isn't exactly clear on what you want to do. When you say "making 3D animation of weapons and stuff" that could mean that you simply want to make a 3D model of an AR-15 and make an animation of it functioning or perhaps make it rotate 360. If that is the case, the above apps might be overkill. For something simple, back in the day I might have used Vellum Cobalt or (later) SolidWorks or maybe Rhino with some add-on animator. Or, it could mean that you want to make an animated short with your own deathstar. Then, the above apps would be more appropriate. For sake of completeness, I will note that 3DS Max is better for game animation. Maya is the one to learn if you know you will be working on feature films. I *really* like Cinema 4D (which includes Bodypaint). C4D is good for both motion graphics and feature films depending on the modules used. If you start looking at the subject in any depth you may quickly be overwhelmed with the sheer number of product combinations - you can mix and match modelers, painters, animators, and renderers. To dive quickly into the deep end of the pool, download the demo of C4D and work through the tutorials at C4D Cafe PS: Yeah, I know Blender is free - sometimes you get what you pay for. |
