Anybody have one?
Is it a pain in the butt? Someone wants me to start a blog on Google's blog site. I was looking through the boring "terms of use agreement", and if I form a Google account, they will "customize" my search experience, by keeping a log of every site I visit, and basically, every keystroke I make. I don't like that idea at all. Youtube won't let me have full use of their features unless I have a Google account, either. I have a Youtube account, but I can't have a list of favorites or save titles for easy access unless I have a Google account. My gut reaction is to say fuck Google, but... I have my computer set up so that Microsoft and Dell cannot vandalize it while I sleep with upgrades that screw my computer up. Would that stop Google, too? I'm sure they collect data on all my surfing now, but if you read the terms of use agreement, it sounds like they want to stand behind me with a notepad 24/7. |

It keeps track of searches in google if you are logged in. You can opt out of tracking IIRC, but I tend to log out of my google gmail account before doing any google searches...just because.
ETA: if you are using a google toolbar for instance in FFox (or maybe even regular google does this, but I don't know because I have it turned off) if you have it do an autocomplete/make a suggestion then it does send your keystrokes back to the google server in order for it to do it's completion/suggestion thing. |
| i chuckle every time i read these threads... let me clue you in- you are already being watched and there isn't much you can do about it. your options are to stop using the internet, or get over it. that being said, if you completely avoid large sites like google, yahoo, msn, aol, etc you will probably be "safer" than those who do use them regularly. |
