Hey guys,

I have a Sun MS SCR331 card reader that I used to log onto army.mil sites. It worked fine with XP x32 but now I cant install the driver with XP x64.

I downloaded the drivers from Sun and a USB driver for Vista from AKO but niether of those work. Is there any way for me to install this card reader?

OST.

I am running Mac OS 10.5.6 and can't get my CAC to work with my Omni Key CardMan.  Apparently, there's some $250 piece of software I need.

I haven't touched a sun card reader in ages but this might be it:

For the mac, you might try this discussion, linked from that last page I linked:

That tells me that Active client does not work with XP x64.

XP x64 is based off Server 2003 and there is a driver for 2003. WTF.

This is the folder name of the driver I think I have to use:

SCR3xxx_Drivers_Win2k_Win2003server_XP3264_Vista3264_V4.41
So again, how can this not work with XP x64?

Crap, I'm sorry.  I thought you had Vista.  Complete failure of reading comprehension.

Unfortunately it looks like there is no support for XP64:  http://www.actividentity.com/support/kbase/activclient/display_article.php?kbid=974

It does look like to me that the driver should work based on that name.  That seems pretty dumb to me if it doesn't.  It could be something as simple as a version check before the driver will load.

This is what they say

Windows Server 2003 SP1, R2 and SP2 (all 32- and 64-bit editions)

This is what MS says about XP x64 and Server 2003 x64

The x64-based versions are based on the Windows Server 2003 code tree. Service and support activities for these versions use the Windows Server 2003 tree and do not use the Windows XP client tree.

So XP x64 has the same core as Server 2003 x64, how in the hell can the driver for Server 2003 x64 not work for XP x64?

Edit:

I DL Active Client 6.0 and tried to install it. The install wizard errors every time I try to install it. Any ideas?

I got this from http://www.actividentity.com/products/activclient_cac__home.php

"System Requirements
• Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista (32 or 64-bit) or Windows Server 2003 (32 or 64-bit)
64 MB of RAM minimum
150 MB of free disk space "

Again, why wont anything work on XP x64? Its basically Server 2003 x64.

Ok I submitted a question to Active Identity. We will see what they say. I tried every possible way of installing the driver and I am still lost.

It's funny, the 2nd C in CAC is for Card, but everyone calls them CAC cards (myself included).

Problem with just saying "CAC reader" is that most non military people dont have a clue what a CAC is. Say " CAC card reader" and a lot more people will understand.

That sucks.  It sounds suspiciously like 64 bit support in XP was a bolt-on hack rather than folding in what was written for server.

Wish I could have been more help.  I know this kind of thing drives me crazy whenever I have to deal with it.

Well, that and if you happen to ask a chick if she's seen your CAC you might get slapped.
