I'm partial to Zone Alarm (free version) –– but I have been using it for a while and have not researched any other options recently.

I also like comodo. I used it for several months, and it worked fine. The only problem was that my computer slowed down, but that was my fault, I had way too many other anti-virus programs, and they were conflicting.

Comodo should work fine if you couple it with something like AVG. Just play with it and see which combo works best with your computer and your needs. Hope this helps.

I tried comodo a while ago.  It screwed up my computer and would not uninstal.  I checked around and this is not an uncommon problem.  Of course it is probably only a problem with less than savvy persons such as me.  Seems like a love it or hate it thing.  I was running Zonealarm on my old laptop, and just the windows XP firewall on my desktop.  No real problems with either.  I just got a new laptop for Christmas, and clicked here to see what I should try next.
