Hey guys,
Were setting up a new office and we are having some issues. First, we have a wireless network that every computer is connected to, but one laptop will not connect to it. The computer has Win Xp and when you find the network and hit connect, it shows the bars moving to the right (how XP shows it) then the box goes away and you just see the open networks screen again, so it just doesnt connect. Second, that same computer when you unplugged the power cord (laptop) it shut off, no running off the battery. So i figured the battery was shot. Ordered a new one and it still does the same thing. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. |

Sounds like you might have some hardware problems, to include the terminals on the motherboard for the battery and your wireless card.
If you have a USB wireless adapter laying around you can test the wireless. Also a lot of laptops have a wireless on/off switch common mistake to bump these. |

is xp using microsoft's wireless software or the wireless hardware vendor's software? Thanks for the reply, its using windows program, or way of doing it. When i click to connect it shows the screen saying connecting where the bars move to the right and it never connects. |

whats your hardware? I have a dlink router that works fine on everything else, and i have actually used it for like 4 years. No! The Laptop! ![]() Woops. Its a Midern laptop, it was made by a company with everything i wanted, they basically made it for me so its not a popular name brand. Never had any problems with it until now. The battery problem just recently started also. |
| When you unplug it does it shut down properly or just turn off due to lack of power? If its the former, you need to play with the settings in "Power Options" menu of the control panel. If its the latter, and your wireless card is "onboard" and not a pcmcia card, your mother board might be going. |

If you have traveled a lot with this laptop, try tightening the case screws. I had a laptop that would not run off battery power if a particular case screw was not hand tight. Just berely hand tighten these screws. See if that fixes your battery issue. Good Luck!

I have a cheap "TP-Link" card that I got from TigerDirect - it does not find networks using the Microsoft program - I have to use the software that came with it.
You probably have to open that software program and see what options it gives you for setting up new networks. |
