well, when i downloaded one of the antivirus software packages, it came with a Uniblue Registry cleaner. after the scan it said it detected 249 errors. is it safe to let this registry cleaner do it's job? i don't know about messing with the registry so a bit paranoid.

uninstall it.   the registry is not something to mess with if you don't know for sure what its removing

I'll third this. Editing the registry is a great way to remove a leg, if you don't know what you're doing.

If you do know what you're doing, you might just lose it below the knee.

And it never hurts to create & have a registry backup whether you're doing anything to it or not...sometimes Windows manages to corrupt the registry on its own.

I like CCleaner for culling orphaned entries.
