I have to admit, I haven't had an MP3 player yet. Thinking about taking the plunge.

iPhones are supposed to be getting issued by corp early 2009, so I don't want to fork out the $$$ for an iTouch.

iPod, Zune, or other????

I have the newer Nano the square one.

I plays videos, movies, games. you can store files and pics on it as well as play music

and it super tiny 1/4" thick.  I put a chunky speck brand cover on it it now feels rugged as if you could toss it across the room

I recently got an Iphone so now the nano mostly stays in the truck

I use a $9 1gb Sandisk MP3 player now.

Creative Zen… Does everything an iPod Nano will do for one third to one half the price. Comes in 2, 4, 8, and 16GB.

Unless you intend to use the Apple music store there is no reason to pay more for a iPod… to do so is just paying a Apple tax.

If you don’t need video playback the Sansa Clip is the ticket. The Clip is about the size of a matchbox but still has a small screen so you can select songs and playlist and again it is cheaper that a comparable iPod that has no screen. I have a Clip I use to listen to audio books you can clip it anywhere on your clothing and not even know it is there because of the size and light weight/ Comes in 1, 2, and 4GB.

I have both...bought the Zen Vision M 60g to carry all of my music with me when I went to Iraq, and for use in the car. I recently bought the Sansa clip 2g to use while working out, as my last "gym mp3 player" fell victim to a combination of gravity and a 60lb dumbbell.

I use a Sansa E250 for carrying around, and an older 20G iPod 4th gen for the car. The iPod's battery is about shot, so it stays on the car's DC power and is wired into the stereo's aux -in.

I have a Sansa C200 w/ a 2g micro SD card for 4g total storage.  I use this primarily for when I jog.

I have the 4g Sansa clip that I keep in my backpack at work, just in case I get into a situation where I need to listen to some tunes.

I don't like the digital rights management that itunes saddles you with if you "buy" music from them.  I rip music from CD's I own or buy DRM free MP3's from Amazon.

I am would consider the new 16gb Zune though.

Use to think ipods were for trendwhores who like name brands so I had a Creative player. The thing crapped out right after the 1 yr warranty expired. Then I received an ipod nano as a gift and it's still going strong after 2 yrs. If music's all you need, I'd recommend it. Although I hate dealing with itunes..

*edit*

If music's all you need

Scratch that because the new nano also has video I believe.

I have been through a lot of MP3 players over the years.  I currently use three different players.

For running and PT I just use an iPod shuffle.  I like this one because I can just drag and drop files onto it and then use a Perl script to create the database (no itunes needed).

For more of a large device that I leave in the car I have a 40GB Creative Zen.  I have been considering switching over to an older 30GB iPod since I can run the Rockbox firmware on it.

My everyday and most used player is an 8GB SanDisk Sansa e280.  I installed the Rockbox firmware for a nicer interface and other features.

I have had a 40g and now a 60g ipod I keep filling them up with music only. I don't like how the things became so trendy that people with no music interest even HAVE TO HAVE one. I do not like the white headphones that are advertising for apple. but the thing gets the job done well. If there was some better alternative I might go for it next upgrade. When iphone came out people would ask me if I was getting one, I said Hell no why would I want one of those.... now the newer ones are looking a hell of a lot better than my blackberry. but I am still holding out.
