I started using Google Chrome about a week ago. Wow, is it ever fast. I really want to like this browser, but since installing it I have encountered a fatal Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) crash/reboot about half a dozen times, always with Chrome running. It is years since I saw the BSOD on a Windows OS, so this really jumps out at me. I'm using a Dell laptop with a plain vanilla set of business applications on Windows XP Pro SP2.

I'm convinced that Chrome is the culprit. Has anyone else had this problem ? If so, what hardware/software are you using ?

Been using it with great success since the day it came out at home and at work.  Home machine is a Dell Dimension 8300 and work is a Dell Latitude D820.  Both with XP Pro SP3.

In fact, I'm posting from Chrome now.

I have used it on several PCs some of them being pretty old machines.  No problem.

UPDATE: I decided to uninstall Chrome and revert to using Opera. This appears to have cured my BSOD problem. Oh, and I found out how I can customize Opera to replicate some of the nicer features of Chrome... life is good .

I won't be using Chrome. I believe Google openly admits that they use it to gather data on users. I don't have the details but it makes sense for them. They have web bots crawling the web constantly so why not create a free product for people to use that gives them even more info. I use Mozilla/Firefox and like it. Opera is another great choice.

i have left chrome open on a computer at home for several days now.   no crashes whatsoever.     believe it or not im sure most browsers track or collect information about your browsing.

My browsing methods have changed over the years.  (Not insinuating that anyone here has a problem!)  I now assume that no matter where I browse (even running firefox on external drive) that I am being tracked.  I know a guy who believes as long as he's alone in the room, no one can see what he's looking at.

Edit: To answer the original question, I have gotten the bsod, but it was my own fault.  I rebuilt my Lenovo Thinkpad and it comes with Symantec loaded in.  I decided to go AVG for now until I browse others.  In real time, I tried it without an anti virus or firewall.  Stupid, stupid, stupid.
