[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Best file system for Ubuntu?

Ok, I'm getting ready to format one of the old hard drives in my computer so I can install ubuntu on it and boot from that drive when I want to run linux.

What file system should I use and how do I go about doing it?

The installer will walk you through that. For a desktop machine, there is very little reason to use anything but ext3.

blarg. I can't get it installed. It keeps getting stuck at 73% for some weird reason.

I know its not a bad cd as I used it successfully to install ubuntu onto a different computer.

my system is

asus a7n8x mb
athlon xp 2600+
1gb of pc 3200 ram

eta : NM. Finally got it to install from the livecd using the "failsafe" boot option.

Shame that a smart guy did something dumb like Hans Reiser did.

I use ext3 though, it is the default on Redhat and I think Fedora so I just stick with that.

Yep.

I used reiserfs in my slackware installs, just to be different. I honestly couldn't tell a difference between the two.
