Anyone have one of these yet ? It is strangely appealing to me . What do you think of it ?

i have one for development. it's a pretty nice package and will do everything the iphone will do with the exception of phone and camera. i have plenty of access to wifi in my area and the touch recognizes and connects to the networks as needed and without hassle. overall i've been pleased and feel it has tremendous potential as a mobile computing platform and may actually be better in that role than as a music player.

I just found out it won't do some embedded Flash so pandora and netflix are out . Still has potential though.

I work on a large campus that has WiFi throughout, so it would have alot of uses for me daily.

It's very nice except for the touchscreen interface.  The basic concept of having a touchscreen on something where you watch videos or try to read text is simply broken.  You quickly get grease and scratches on the screen making it harder to see.  I've used touchscreens for over 20 years, and while executives almost always love the concept because they're not smart enough to think through the horrible consequences(but they write the checks so we still use them), universally the users hate them with a passion.z

It is fairly obvious that you have never used an iPhone or iPod Touch.

Ditto...  The touchscreen on the touch/iphone is very, very nice.    Intuitive, responsive, and overall easy to use.   The keyboard can be somewhat of a pain, but that is more due to the real estate available than the screen - no diff than a blackberry, etc.    It is also glass, so easy to wipe down and mine is still scratch free almost a year later.    Can't say the same for the chrome back, however, which does get scratched up quick - easily fixed with a "skin" (basically a transparent decal less than a mil thick - I don't even notice mine) however.

That being said, at this point, I would wait on the touch.   Apple has historically released their new ipod models early september for at least the last several years.   In a few months, you'll likely be able to get the next gen one for the same price as the current crop, which should be pretty steeply discounted.

I love mine.

Put the 30gig ipod away when i got the touch, and love it.

I has some neat features, like a notepad, and stocks and weather, as well as video, etc.

I downloaded some conversion software, so I can rip a dvd to touch format, and sync it, so movies, and tv shows are easy, without using the itunes store.

I keep lots of photos on it, and a few games to keep the kids busy when appropriate.

two thumbs up

Do you have anything logical to post, or are you only mentally able to utter senseless insults?

The fact is that the screens get dirty and are hard to read.  It's the same reason why you would never consider touching the monitor on your computer.z

He didn't insult you.  I had an opinion similar to yours until I got an iTouch for free... Not sure it's worth $400 (for comparison, I don't spend money on gizmos like that), but it's pretty slick.  I have a touch-screen in my jet... that gets a little smudged at times, but it is not difficult to read.  Both the iTouch and the screen in my jet are glass - that's why they're functional.  Most monitors and old touch screens are plexiglass.

maybe i'm not taking mine into harsh enough environments, but i've never had any problems with brightness or legibility. and short of mud, food, or paint, i can't imagine it ever being a problem.

I've used the iPhone, and the screen stays fairly clean - until you make a call. The saving grace here, though, is the screen is easy to clean since it is level with the edge of the phone (no bezel). None of my Windows Mobile phones are that easy to clean.

Yeah I am thinking for Christmas I'll get one , but with anything electronic if you wait a better cheaper one will become available.

The direct opposite of guns, if you wait, it may be less available, more expensive

I have a touch screen phone, sure it gets fingerprints on it but when the screens lit you dont even see them only when its off/dimmed. Wipe it down once a day and no issues or just use the stylus.

I think they are a little over-priced compared to the phone. Add a camera and external speaker, and I think it would be much better.  I would have bought the phone if it was available from other carriers.

As far as the negative screen comment, I use mine daily, wipe it off with whatever shirt I am wearing, carry it in the back pocket of my jeans, and have zero scratches.  My friend bought his phone the first month it came out and his screen is scratch-free as well.

I never insulted you. The screen on the iPhone/Touch is completely different than any other screen that I have ever used. Believe me, I was skeptical, but the accuracy and the scratch resiliency for the screen is amazing. You can't much say that executives aren't smart considering I just read an article calling for over 45 Million iPhones sold.

I played with one at the apple store yesterday. I was quite impressed. Now I want one more

The touch screen was way more responsive then the others I have used before (better then the touchscreen in our MDX) . I got used to browsing the web in about 2 or 3 minutes ( after I asked how to zoom )
