Read this on another forum.

If you add "&fmt=18" to the end of any YouTube url and it's supposed to play in High-Def.

Didn't work.

Works for me... double check it. Under the video with that at the end of the URL, you will see a "Watch this video in lower quality for faster playback" link under the videos.

Works for me (hint: don't include the double quotes when adding the string to the URL)

I tried it on about six different vids.  Didn't work on any of them.  I did not include the quotes.

All the vids looked the same.

it does SOMETHING for me.   it buffers alot more and the bottom left corner it says  "Watch this video in lower quality for faster playback."

The video I just tried it on looks quite a bit ... well, "crisper".  Looks like it works, however I used a video I know was uploaded at a high resolution (mine).

Try it on the following video.  Put both fullscreen, and look at the text as a constant so you can compare:

Normal Youtube Video Link

"HiDef"  Youtube Link

I put the videos side by side and there is definitely a difference, at least for me.

No, they are the same.  I D/Led both and they match with a diff.  ffmpeg says both are same resolution and frame rate.

I can see a difference between these two.

The Dark Knight Trailer

The Dark Knight Trailer HD

It also works for me on non-HD videos.

Lay off the crack buddy.

There is a huge difference right off the bat with the green screen showing the preview message. It is like night and day.

Crappy

A lot better!

Doesnt work for me, I get the same screen for both.

Maybe it only works on certain videos. Like if they were a higher res to begin with it will give you that option, but if the video was crappy to begin with, that is all you get.
