Can I replace a laptop monitor screen? I cracked mine this evening. Me propping my foot on it just wasnt the best thing. It is still useable (on it now) but has these black lines running though it. Buying a new laptop isnt really an option right now and an affordable home repair is needed. |

If you're reasonably handy with a screwdriver and can remember how to put things back together it should be possible. Start by searching for the maintenance manual for your model. I had a backlighting wire (2 actually) break in mine, and I found a full description of how to disassemble it. Then again, I've been doing things with electronics since I was 14. Replacement screens for my Presario V2401 are around $280, a new low-end laptop is around $600 so it may not really be worth taking the $300 chance of fixing it, or having sunk another $300 into a dead machine. |

if you're comfortable with repairs and have some small screwdrivers, sure. if you don't want to jack stuff up worse, worry about getting the right part, etc. get a local shop to do it. Get an estimate ahead of time. Just find out the $$$ of the screen before you go, so if they charge you $500 for a $250 screen you can walk. |
