I'm building a new computer. My case (Antec Nine Hundred) and MoBo (ASUS P5W DH Deluxe) should be arriving today.

The MoBo is Compatible with ATI Crossfire.
Originally I planned on getting a GeForce 8600GT, but I want to leave my options open.

So,

How does Crossfire compare to SLI?
It's been a while since I was in the video card world--how is ATI comparing to nVIDIA these days?
Got any suggestions on hardware?

Other specs of the computer:
Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.66ghz
4GB DDR2 RAM
2x 500GB HDDs in Raid1
Thermaltake Purepower 550W PSU.

ETA: FTR, I'm probably going to run XP, SP2

I've been reading about it myself, and it doesn't look like crossfire or sli are going to be around all that long. I'm not a hardcore gamer, and don't need the hardcore graphics abilities that the latest and greatest video cards offer, but as I am building a machine that I'd like to have for a while, I'm getting a geforce 8600 card. Take a look on www.tomshardware.com and www.anandtech.com for more info on the subject.

Most of the reports and benches I've seen show SLI will generally beat XFire. Its also easier to install and configure.

I used to have two 8500GTs in SLI, they've since been replaced with a single 8800GTS.

If I get around to it, Im might pick up a second GTS and Swiftech Stealth and see if I can't crank up the 3DMark06 score a little more.
