alright a few specs here first

OS: Win XP Pro SP2
Proc: AMD 4800 x2
Video: 2 - Nvidia 7800 GTx's
Ram: 2gB Mushkin PC 3200
Sound: SB XFi Platinum
PSU: PC Power and Cooling 520SLI

here's the problem, i cannot watch windows media based videos (wmv, AVI, ASF....) it plays them but the screen is black and i can barely make anything out, the sound is fine, but it's like there is a black filter running over the screen..wtf is that all about?? I built the system and have a lot of experience in doing so, but i cannot for the life of me figure this one out..i tried using one monitor instead of two, adjusted the lcds for contrast, brightness, color space, refresh rate...tried reinstalling WMP and it's codecs...i'm stumped, any and all advice/help would be appreciated, this is a pain in the ass and i have ignored it for a few months...i need to fix the problem

ETA: flash movies, youtube, google video, quicktime and dvds all look great, it's only WM based

hey thanks for the suggestions, however updating flash isn't going to solve a windows media problem, the K-Lite was already installed, but i reinstalled it just now and it didn't change a damned thing, my screen is still dark when playing wmv, avi, asf...i'm sure it's something simple, but i have been all over this problem looking for clues and have come up with nothing..it's quite frustrating

VLC should have solved it.  How many are you trying to play?  All from one source?

Could be corrupt files?
