My Wife is taking an office software class that requires Office 2007 Pro.

Is Office 2007 Pro compatible with Windoze 2000 Profesional?

My home boxes all run W2K.  I may have to upgrade to XP on one of the boxes so she can do her homework.

Thanks

Time to upgrade to XP!

"Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack (SP) 2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, or later operating system"

Or buy her one of the sub-$600 laptops currently available from Toshiba or another manufacturer you like, with Vista and trial-Office2007 installed.

Mention Vista to The "Imperial Red-Headed Scorpio"(my Wife) and you'll be treated to a profanity laden tirade second to none.
Then you better run, she has a wicked palm heel strike and wields a mean shotgun.

There are Vista boxes where she works and the victims users of these boxes are unanimous in their hatred of Vista.  My Wife went on strike until they removed her Vista box and gave her back a XP box.

A laptop is in the plans for tax time (I'm a student also).  But there will be no Vista on any box that we buy.  If I have to wipe the HD and install XP, that's what I'll do.

The class she is taking is a basic class.  The instructor said that most of the computer work will be done in class.
What isn't done in class can be done in the lab in an afternoon.

I was rather violently opposed to Vista until I bought my Toshiba laptop in June.

I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that I don't really hate it.  I'm not wowed by it, but it's...functional.  I'm not nearly as annoyed with it as I thought I would be.

Elsewhere on ARFCOM someone suggested waiting for Vista SP1.

Probably good advice.

Not really.

If drivers are available for all your hardware Vista is stable and certainly more secure than XP, there is no doubt that Vista is ahead of where XP was at this stage of its release.

All the Vista carping you hear today you heard exactly the same stuff about XP six years ago… people swore they would never use XP, well they did. If you already have a computer with XP then stay with if you want, but at this point a new computer with XP is kinda silly, Vista is the future.

As I said earlier.  I'll wait for Vista SP1.

Too much of a hassle to run down drivers and debug a new OS.  Microsoft should have had Vista ready to go upon its release.

I wouldn't upgrade an older computer with Vista (for one thing, I'm not buying a new video card for Aero Glass when my current card runs Compiz just fine).
