for geeks routers work on OSI layer 3 and switches on layer 2

for normal people, routers connect two different networks. switches are smart hubs that send data to the intended recipient, rather than broadcasting to everything on the network.

what application are you needing a router or switch for?

You will need a router to do this or a computer with 2 network cards.

Simple answer, go get a wireless router and hook it up to the dsl modem.
