What is the best way to defrag a drive? Should I use windows defragmenter or would it really be worth the money to purchase a defrag program with a few more bells and whistles?

the windoz version does a good job, so don't buy anything else

at most you might want to defragment every 6 months or so. otherwise its just unnecessary stress on the drive

I have found that if I defragment regularly I have less prolems with my video files. Have Vista 2.4ghz amd dual core

Just defragment regularly, it will save you a lot of hassle. Initially defragging may seem like a pain but in the end its worth it and if you keep it defragged(say once a week isn't bad) then the time spent defragging won't be too noticeable. Unless you're really anal about the defragmentation I wouldn't suggest buying a defrag program, there's really no point.

Another plus for Vista. With low-priority I/O you don't even notice when the computer is doing a defrag.
