OK... wireless network problem for the technically retarded.... I have a Netgear 802 style network that has been set up in my home. When I set it up, I used 128bit WEP security. The netgear programming had a feature that generated the key when I typed in a password. I know the password, but I need to have that converted into a key for another operation and I no longer have that netgear program. Any ideas? |

Besides using Netgear’s utility for creating WEP keys from pass phrases, I know of no other way to get the WEP key except by using Aircrack. Different manufacturers use different algorithms for creating WEP keys. For example the Linksys generator is not compatible with Netgear and vise versa. To get your WEP key, download Aircrack. This is a collection of tools for cracking WEP. I use the linux version for peneration tests for my job. Among the tools is wzcook.exe. As long as you use Windows Wireless Configuration to manage your wireless profiles this handy tool can extract and find all the keys your computer has ever saved. |
