My home network is all Cisco.  I figure the best way to learn it is to live with it, but I've never been able to figure out how to get Multicast working.

I mostly have trouble with apps on my iPhone that want to connect to other devices on my network, such as my FireTV or my PS4.  I also can't seem to sync with iTunes wirelessly.

Examples;  the Fire TV has an iPhone app that lets me control it remotely, but the app can't find the FireTV.
The PipBoy app that lets me connect to the PS4 while playing Fallout 4, the app can't see the PS4.

I think this issue is in the Multicast realm, but I could be wrong.

My network consists of:

1941 router ---> 2960S ---> 2106 WLC ---> LAP-1142N WAPs.

Most of my computers hang off of the 2960, with a few of them and my PS4 on the WAPs.  This can be readily changed, as I have drops in every room.  It doesn't seem to matter if both devices are on WiFi or a mix of WiFi and wired.

Help me, ARFCOM!

Can any of you Cisco experts help m

Does the multicast work on wired-to-wired?

I don't know, I'd have to find some way to test.

I think the issue is now down to wifi to wired.

I found some multicast setting in the WLC and was able to get wifi to wifi multicasting to work to my PS4.

I did see some Cisco switch commands, but those seem to be layer 3 only, and my switch is a layer 2.

my CCIE is in R/S and 12 years ago so...

You need to enable mcast to support bonjour.

I figured out the issue, and it was a stupid one.

My WLC is using an untagged VLAN ID, whereas my switch is set up with a VLAN.

The port that the WLC is plugged into was not set to trunking.

It was a quick fix that I should have noticed a long time ago.
