I'm not really tech savvy; more of a technological aborigine.
I'd like something economical and compact with a keyboard and the ability to use a wireless mouse. Main goal is to use it as a word processor with either the MS Word or OpenOffice freeware and primarily work off of a thumb drive for data storage instead of keeping it on the laptop, and i have no interest of storing it on the "cloud" whatever that is. Main purpose would be keeping field notes at work and reading on down time. I would maybe like to download some books, but looking at things like the HP Stream that doesn't seem likely. I'd like to download to a flash drive and read them later if I don't have internet access. I don't know whether to go with something like a chromebook, HP Stream, or try to just find a small cheap laptop. Any suggestions? Thanks |

Thanks dont know how much your willing to go but i have been using a Lenovo Helix ultrabook pro for work and its been awesome. its basically like a laptop but also a tablet so would be good for taking notes or reading. only bad thing i have to say about it is that it only has like 2 usb ports, 1 on the keyboard and one on the tablet side. and it is like $1000. another option would be a surface pro 3 tablet with the keyboard. i could use one of these for work but i like the lenovo better. im not familiar with any of the other cheep tablet/laptops so i cant say whats better then the other, other then just looking at the website. this is kind of another area where "you get what you pay for" kicks in. |

The little receive plugs in one of the ports and the mouse talks to it. Plug and play for the device drivers. I got lucky and ordered a $600 Lenovo last year and they just ran out of stock and discontinuedthe model and offered me a $1200 Y70 Touch instead for the same price. I took it |
