Hey guys I am needing some help with my laptop.

It is a Dell Latitude E6400 Latitude laptop. It is business class running win 7. It has earned its money several times over with the amount of papers and work I've done through it over the years.

Lately I have been noticing that when I am running youtube on a higher video quality it will start to feel hot after a while and then the video/audio will get "mixed." Ie the guy talking will be before/after the portion of the video they are discussing online

Second thing. I utilize a docking station quite frequently.  When I remove the laptop I notice fairly frequently that as soon as I remove the laptop, it will disable my previously working wireless. I click on the networks and it shows red, without any wireless network displayed. I utilize the wireless signal slide feature and occasionally it will reset something and the card will turn on, connect and off I go. I also attempt to go into "manage adapter properties" and sometimes find that if I disable/enable the card that works. A lot of the time though I do not even see a wireless card displayed in that screen and the only way I can get it fixed is to restart the machine. At which time it works fine for as long as I use it.

Any ideas what could be causing these troubles? I also see no reason to get rid of the machine as I am quite fond of it and am interesting in spending money to fix these troubles and upgrade it in whatever ways I can.

Thanks

Have someone tear it apart and clean it, while they have it apart have them install an SSD, and replace the WNIC.  All told you'll probably spend twice what it's worth.

Your fan is probably full of lint.  You can try using compressed air and blowing it out with the laptop running, or you can take it apart and clean it that way.  See if that fixes your problem with video.

No idea on your wifi issues, sorry.

Since you're okay with spending money, drop a $100 Samsung 850 evo in it.  You can clean the fan while you are installing the SSD.

None really for laptops. You could get a laptop cooling pad, which is nothing but a pad with fans on it to help exhaust faster. What it really needs, is a cleaning inside the case. My Alienware laptop would get very hot when it was clean...but it had 2 gaming GPUs inside. When the fans and heatsinks got clogged over the years, it would just shut off. A thorough cleaning solved the problem.

I also recommend getting a Samsung 850 Pro SSD as a replacement for your hard drive. Pick one that is the same capacity or larger. You'll love it.

If your using a hime router for your wifi, see if it needs a firmware update.

I replaced my 3 year old router after it started disconnecting every 10-20 minutes and stopped sending out signals. I guess it started biting the dust.
