Okay.....My prime goal is to dump using Outlook 2000. I generally only use it for mail, and there are better and much less bloated programs out there to use. Simple, I thought. WRONG! Apparently, Microsoft treats it's PST file format somewhat like a Father would his daughter's chastity. So now I'm stuck with 2+ YEARS worth of email messages in Outlook, and no idea how to get them out. I've tried importing to Eudora and Mozilla Mail...no dice. I've even tried two mail convert programs...no dice. Anyone have an idea of how this can be done without a SEVERE amount of pain? |
| I'm running Outlook 2002 (XP), and I see two ways. When I highlight a particular e-mail, I can perform a "Save As", with the default format being a text file (UNIX-versal format). You can also export to a comma-delimited file, which other e-mail programs should be able to convert. If you do end up saving individual e-mail messages, try renaming whatever extension they currently are to .eml (Outlook Express can open .eml files, if you want to use this program). I know Windows. Therefore, I know it's not merely code-bloat...It's bonafide fat-ass. I feel your pain. Hope this helps. |

Working with both Mozilla Mail and Eudora, comma delimited file didn't work. I didn't want to THINK about saving per email, as I've got somewhere between 1500 and 2000 emails lying in my various mail folders. Somehow I was able to port it over to Mozilla mail...after about an hour and a half of working with it. Moving it from the Local Folders to my account folder was hell...for somee reason, it would only move one folder. So for every folder I'd have to move it, shut down Mozilla, reload mozilla, move the next one, etc, etc. |
