I have a nothing special HP laptop that came with a transformer with output DC specs of: 19.5v 3.33a On office clean up day, I rescued a HP transformer from the trash bin that has output specs of: 18.5v 3.5a The interface is the same between them. Can I use the lower voltage transformer without fear of damage to my battery/computer? Is that enough of a DC voltage difference to cause a problem? I imagine there are many people out there that just plug any old transformer in as long as the plug interface fits without much problem, but I want to be sure. Thanks! |

Some HP models have multiple power supplies listed as being compatible. If you google your laptop model power supply compatible, you might see a variety of voltages listed if you're lucky.
In some cases if a power supply is a bit on the light side, you'll get a message at startup that the power supply might not have enough juice. |
