Yep, I said cheap I'm looking at a lot of cheap Chinese knock-off Android tablets in the 7" and up range. I specifically need it to download GPS maps and the shooter app for field use. My phone burns memory cards (have tried four now) and I can't put everything I need in its 8GB onboard memory, so I am going to keep my phone for phone and music use. That means I need a device for navigation and to store ballistics data. It doesn't have to be a rockstar tablet, but I'd like a reasonably sharp screen for GPS maps, and it has to have GPS and wifi built in (cell coverage is not necessary) I know enough to stay away from the $50 Chinese offerings on Ebay. But there are other brands/vendors with similarly priced (under $100) tablets that look interesting. Any advice? |

Dude, spend a few bucks more and get a Nexus 7. You will have the latest and greatest in OS's, upgrades galore and have a honest to god Google product. Plus the screen on the new one is amazing. Even the first gen N7 wold be a good deal, if you shop right you might find them on clearance. |

But this will be a purpose-bought tablet, basically living in my range bag, to augment a Kestrel and allow me to not use my phone (small screen). I just need something basic, inexpensive, with GPS, but solid enough to not crap out after a week of use. I'm trying to get a Mauser build finished and an extra $150 translates into a base and rings. I'll look at the Wal-Mart offerings with the $7 service plan, that's pretty solid right there. |

Went back and bought the Sero 7. $129 + $15 for two year warranty. Warranty was $28 online thru walmart.com and they wouldn't ship.
Installing apps on the device now. So far, completely satisfied for the money. One of the best purchased in computing I've made in years, actually. We'll see how long the novelty lasts, since I plan on treating it somewhat poorly. Anyone know if there's an otterbox for it? |

That's the only downside I can see to the Hisense tablets... no aftermarket support yet. I bought one a week ago, and there has already been an over the air update. I'd say there is "Some" support so far. I'm hoping they keep developing lower priced units with so many features. I mean, come on, GPS, NFC, SD slot, HDMI out... Granted it's not the Genius Bar yet, but Wally World should stand behind them if there are problems. |
