Just got the green light from the wife unit to build a new rig. It will be a dual purpose rig, gaming and HTPC occasionally.
Putting parts together now and I stumbled across ASUS new P8z77-V Pro board. What I really like about this board is the WiFi Go feature Basically what I can do with this is stream media from the PC to my TV (built in WiFi and DLNA) wireless. Now I know I can do that through media center on Win 7, but what asus has is a remote app. I can use my tablet or smartphone as a remote for the PC itself I can be in the living room, pick-up tablet and remote into the PC and have full functionality. I can also tell the PC which receiver, like the TV in the living room, I want it to play the media on and still use the tablet like a remote control for pause and volume control ect. Thats just one feature it has, file transfer and others can be done as well. Here's my question. Is there any other hardware/software that will allow me to so the same thing? Specifically using my tablet as a remote desktop and remote for media streaming. This is a video of the WiFi go system This is a video of the WiFi Go system Ill get into the rest of the system on a later post, this will be my first build doing any kind of modding. Plan on case mods, full custom sleeving and watercooling. |

Ditto with this, and stop thinking as the TV as a end monitor alone that has to be driven from the computer.
Think NAS for storage so you don't have to have a computer up and running for storage, nor the computer on to drive the TV as well. As for the TV, then think something as simple as pivos XBMC to drive it. This will allow you to airplay to the TV, play from the NAS, or even just play directly from the internet instead. |
