Just curious about what device I should set up to be my VPN.........
I have the Asus RT-N66U which supports VPN Or the Synology DS-412+ which has VPN as well Which would be better to use as the VPN, and why? I was told yesterday not to use the router because it's an edge device, but I don't see what that has to do with anything. |

I ended up just using the synology. I have better security controls and measures I can take on that box versus the router.
I loathe cisco command line. So stupid. I think it's the only command line interface that actually could benefit from a GUI. I tested out the VPN from work today, and it worked great. Was able to VPN in, hit my plex interace, and start streaming media. Although I did have to drop the resolution down a bunch....but hopefully google fiber will eventually fix that. So next device to configure to the VPN will be my dads Roku in Costa Rica where he lives. I visit him soon, so I am going to attempt to set it up for him. Since you can't directly configure a Roku for VPN, it's a little trickier than normal apparently. But yea, I got my dad the Roku to watch stuff in Costa Rica, didn't know that because he had a Costa Rican IP he would be blocked from watching most of the channels. That's why he needs the VPN, so he has an American IP. |
