Did I get hacked? I came home to find my router SSID changed as well as the password changed after being out of town a few days. I had a guest network setup with all kinds of permissions setup to ensure my information was kept private which were all unchanged. I was using WPA for my passcode protection. The router appeared fine as those two mentioned changes were they only ones that occurred. I was thinking this could rule out a glitch from some sort of power failure. The router is a Netgear Wireless N for what its worth. I did have UPNP enabled which I know has a recently discovered vulnerabilty but I use it and didn't think it was much of a risk. Anything I should check to ensure I'm safe? Luckily my pc was turned off so no data could be accessed remotely.

WPA is not secure, especially if you have a weak password.

So yes, you probably did have your router hacked.  Download new firmware, reload your router with new firmware, pick a smart password (14 characters or more), and move on with life.

I was actually using WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]
With a password that was 15-20 characters long using capitals lowercase numbers and symbols. No dictionary attack would work here. Ill look into reloading the firmware.

were you using wpa or wpa 2?  There's a difference, and WPA has a bunch of issues.

The netgear web interface gives me the option to use both to allow support of older devices. So I was using both. Dumb mistake on my part,
Heres my model. WNR2000v2

I wonder if there is a way to prove I've been hacked and not some random bug that made my router screw up

Would help to change router log on from admin/password, to something else from the start.

Also, if needed, set up a guest account for the kids friends to use when they are at the house and need wifi access (use your home phone number since the kids can remember that instead of them given out the password for the network side.    This way you can change that guest logon password at will if needed, and not have to change the logon for the network side of the router.
