Hey all, I'm at wits end with this machine. Cannot get it to post anymore.

It's an older system that I transferred the guts to a new case and then gave it to my brother.

Abit NF7-S V2.0
AMD Athlon XP Barton 2.083 processor
Thermaltake 480W PSU
Geforce 6800GT AGP Card
Corsair 2 GB of ram.

I wiped all the drives and successfully installed XP on both drives.

All of a sudden he started getting a message upon boot that said CPU is unworkable or has been changed. He would hit F1 and boot into windows just fine.

I did get lucky a few times as was successful and getting it to post and all the setting are correct. Now it appears its DOA.
I tried replacing the BIOS chip just to make sure the original was not corrupt. I tried changing memory, and even the graphics card. Power shows up all throughout the system, Including the keyboard.

I built the system back in 2004....... Flawless ever since a few weeks ago.

I'm looking at the option of just building him a new system.

Yeah I took the CMOS battery out and even tried to flash it by moving the jumper around.

Found a similar processor on Ebay for $10. Should arrive today or Monday....

Maybe I can finally get this thing to work!

Just figured I would post an update.....

I wound up buying a used Athlon XP processor off ebay, and a power supply tester off newegg. The processor arrived before the tester so I got that installed and no post.

I just got the Power Supply tester and the PSU is good. Now I'm thinking the Mobo is shot.

does it even give error beeps if you have nothing but the PSU/motherboard? I'd say get a new motherboard, but then you may want to blow a few hundred on a new system. I gave up resuscitating old systems years ago when I can get out of it <$400.

I've disconnected everything but the PSU and the Processor. I will try to boot up without that and see what happens.
