If so, where did you buy it and would you recommend it?  Anything special to look out for?  On Verizon so I know it needs to be for a CDMA phone.  The nearest Apple store is 4 hours away, I don't really want to go 4 hours to spend $200.

I appreciate any input.

I replaced the screen and digitizer on my 3GS a year or two ago.  I bought the package on Amazon for $45 or so.  I don't remember which one, but I do remember I searched for a lot of positive reviews, and didn't just go on price.  I've since went with a 4S, but that 3GS is still working fine with the replacement screen.

Search youtube for videos on replacement.  Lots of them out there.  It's also my understanding that swapping screens on the 4/4S is more difficult, vs my 3GS.

i took my mac mini apart this last week to swap the hard drive.   it was a nightmare (the first time doing it)

I just makes me glad that I am no longer servicing computers... especially MAC products

I'm pretty sure ifixit has youtube video's of some sort so you have an idea of what you are getting into

I replaced my4S screen.  Bought a kit from a seller on Amazon––came with the tools needed.  The screen itself was pretty close to the original screen––not perfect when compared to my wife's identical phone, but certainly acceptable.  However, once the screen was replaced, the proximity sensor didn't work (i.e. the screen didn't turn off when I put the phone up to my ear).  Pain in the ass.  Eventually bit the bullet and paid the insurance deductible and got a new phone.

The actual replacing of the screen was tedious and a huge pain in the ass, but it wasn't complicated.  I had my desk covered in white paper towels and all the screws and pieces laid out in neat rows in the order of disassembly.  Watched a youtube video on the process.

Tl;dr: too many screws, didn't work right, bought new phone
