I recently upgraded and from what I've seen so far Unity sucks ass on my machine. It seemed to be working but the app bar stops unhiding and clicking on the Ubuntu logo so I can launch an app hangs the machine. Eventually it starts working again but nothing comes up.

Before dumping Unity and returning to the classic desktop I thought I'd see if anyone else has this problem.

I've not had this problem but I just don't care much for Unity.

The new release is in about 11 days. Perhaps there will be some changes (yes, Unity will be on it).

Didn't like Unity either.  Mint 12 did a pretty decent job with Gnome 3.  Not as different/bad as I was expecting.

I didn't realize that. I've wondered if 11.10 would be any better. I might wait to see what 12.04 holds in store.

ETA: Screw Unity. Locked up again. Back to Classic.

This, but I ended up with ArchLinux running KDE for now.  Actually ArchLinux forced me to be a better Linux user.

Have become a fan of Linux Mint recently.  It doesn't have some of the stupid training wheels of Ubuntu - for example, Ctrl+Alt+Backspace will kill the GUI if it gets f'd up, as God intended.  And a reasonable, usable GUI.  FWIW.

Maybe I'll give Mint another look.

I've switched back to the Classic UI and haven't had so much as a hiccup.
