Topic says it all, really. I would like to remote into my PC from a laptop, both run Win 7 so I should be able to setup network level authentication. Is this a secure way to access my PC from school/work? Are there better software suites I should look into?

Thanks!

i would use the free logmein.com software over RDP.

easier to setup, as far as I know it is more secure as well

The key is having the PC you remote into opening up the connection to a third location (a web site or something) where you log in there, see a list of your devices, then click on it to let it know you are connecting.  That way, the software you installed on the PC is opening up the firewall and "pinging" the service to let the service know it's available.

If whatever it is, relies on you directly accessing your IP address remotely, it's not secure.

UNLESS, you are opening up a VPN tunnel or something like that to do it, or set up a firewall, or used port knocking, or etc. etc.

I don't know about "Go to my PC" but WebEx uses a site you log into first, then you open the connection from there. It is quite secure.

I use teamviewer and it works great.  I can even log in from an android device.

I second the Logmein suggestion. There is a free version that allows you to keep 5 computers at once, works very well and is secure.
