Hey, I have a fairly new 6 core AMD windows 7 machine that is not in the best place. Point is sometimes it gets shut up in a cabinet before being put in sleep mode. I would like some sort of alarm that either beeps or ideally puts the system to sleep if the temp gets too high. I've tried searching, but I'm not sure which is best. Thanks in advance. And no, moving it isn't an option. |

I installed Speedfan, but it doesn't seem to have an alert feature as far as I can tell. |

OP download this: it's free: http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/
Set what tolerances you want for your PC under the main tab. This program simply throttles your CPU/GPU temps when they go over X value C. A good bet (imo) would be to set your limits to 80C. I'm pushing my cruncher at 100% on both CPU and GPU (I'm also using a hex core) and haven't even touched those temps. Anything below 80C should be fine. |

Do you want the cabinet door closed? Or is this a "the kids closed it" type thing? You could always take the door off the cabinet. Another option is to modify the back of the cabinet so the exhaust from the computer shoots right at it. Then make an intake hole somewhere else. (bottom front maybe)

It's a pretty simple program that, if tripped, will downclock your CPU/GPU allowing your fans to catch up. Once they're caught up, it automatically resumes your CPU/GPU to whatever settings you have. The graphs section will also be useful to you so you can monitor any spikes you received due to overheating. |
