I'm working on a co-worker's PC since it started giving the BSOD. It originally had Vista on it but our corporate VPN client doesn't play well with Vista (even though it's supposed to) so the machine was rolled back to XP. It was working fine until recently.
Anyway, I'm trying to install off the XP CD I have (it's a legit copy, as in really from MS) and I'm trying to use the XP key I was provided (from her old machine). I didn't think to grab the key off the box before I started the re-install. Well, the key isn't working. Could it be different OEM versions requiring different keys? Maybe hers is an OEM key and mine isn't an OEM version? |

Trust me, Linux was the first thing I thought of. I think she's giving the PC to her son who's in the Army and coming in tomorrow for the holiday. With the quick turnaround needed the mail isn't an option. I'm going to see if she can meet me halfway somewhere. Thanks guys! |

Which VPN are you trying to set up? I've had pretty good luck w/ VNC on a couple of machines.
Also... since I help a lot of "remote" folks setup Linux, I've used this app a lot. It helps when someone either can't/doesn't know how to set up their router for an incoming connection... It's pretty much dead nuts simple. It's small enough, that if they are having trouble installing, they can put it on a Live CD, and in no time flat, I'm on their machine and I can figure out what the problem is. Give it a looksie.. If you're using Ubuntu, it has Ubuntu .deb files for download, so it's just a matter of download, double click, install. http://www.teamviewer.com |

I'm trying to setup our corporate Cisco VPN client.
I use VNC at home and my friend was just telling me about TeamViewer. I need to check that out. But for work it's gotta be Cisco. I've asked her significant other to make an ISO of the CD and put it on my FTP site. Hopefully he'll be able to do that when he gets off work this evening. Nothing's ever easy.
