Ok... so my PC Started shutting off again. Thing is, it doesn't happen anywhere as frequently as it used to,... since I replaced my power supply. Before, as many of you may have remembered from a previous thread, my PC would shut off, even if left on its own... every day. This is VERY random, and few and far between... Oddly enough, Call of Duty:MW2 seems to agitate this problem A LOT. I stopped playing Call of Duty MW2 after I had beat it a few weeks ago... and hadn't played since... Played other games like, BF:BC2, other stuff as well... No problem. I started playing Call of Duty MW2 again, and it starts shutting down, even when I haven't been playing the game. So I decided to download "Core Temp"... I know that PCs have a safety measure whereby it will shut off the PC, before it overheats too badly. What should normal operating temperatures be? What are the higher thresholds where Fail-Safe shut offs occur? |

Lowest is 58c/55c Highest is 73c/69c I just played Modern Warfare 2 for a bit, to see what my highest temperature is while playing it. Thing is, it hasn't shut down... but I did take the cover off my PC. I get the feeling that this might just be a ventilation issue. It's averaging around 55c, while doing nothing... or very low demand aps. (IE google chrome, windows media center running in background, etc) |
| That's a lot hotter than I would expect. Make sure that the CPU fan and all other fans (including the one inside of the power supply) are working. Blow the dust out of your CPU heat sink. If those don't work, take the heat sink off and see if there's any thermal compound between it and the CPU... |

Quoted: Your shut off is probably around 75-80*C. That particular CPU runs 55 - 63*C I would take off the heat-sink and re-apply thermopaste. If that doesn't work your going to need to invest in a better heat-sink and maybe a fan controller. I'm not exactly... good at that kind of stuff.. how do I do that? |

There is a slim chance that he could damage the cpu if he really forces the heatsink on, but most of them are fairly easy to install anymore. OP, youtube and google would be your friend here. Just remember that you don't need a lot of thermalpaste (artic silver 5 works great btw) and don't try to really force the heatsink on. |
