I have tried ripping my CD collection using Itunes and Windows Media Player using multiple drives and I keep getting mp3s with distortions and errors. I have tried cleaning my discs but it does not seem to help. It seems like this should be a simple thing.

What is your recommendation for CD ripping software. I guess I need something with some serious error checking.

ETA: Actually, I think its a problem with my iPhone. The music sounds okay when played my PC. Guess I need Apple tech support.

Although it doesn' t sound like you need a reply for a CD  ripper anymore, I'll throw out there what I use:  CDex and Exact Audio Copy (EAC).  Both are free.

Seconding CDex.  It will also look up the track names for you, a MAJOR time saver.

Make sure you don't screw around with the computer while it's Ripping.  Get away from it, do something else.  Loading the hard drive or processor while you rip _even_on_a_'fast'_computer_ will cause skips and glitches.

Most people use between 256 and 360 vbr for MP3s now.  The 128 is a little light for a lot of stuff (and can cause playability problems like maybe your iPod).
