I have a 16Gb Corsair Survivor flash drive that decided to go into FUBAR mode the other day. I've scoured the 'Net, tried a number of things, but still don't have a functioning flash drive. Well......sort of.
I've tried the flash drive on a number of Windows machines (2 at home, 3 at work), and I get one of two issues; 1. Drive will show up as an I: drive under My Computer, but does not show up under Disk Management. If I click on the drive under My Computer, it opens up, but is empty. Drive does have files on it. 2. Error message pops up, saying that the USB Device Is Not Recognized. Windows may or may not then decide that it has found a new hardware device, and that it is ready to use. Even though the device does not show up as a drive under My Computer, or under Disk Management. I have deleted the partition on the flash drive several times, and have tried formatting the drive, using both FAT32, and NTFS. I also have no LED activity light action from the flash drive. Now at this point, you're probably saying that the flash drive is trashed, and to go out and buy a new one. But wait, there's more.
The drive is recognized, and is read/write capable under Linux Mint on both my desktop and laptop. I still have no LED light activity coming from the flash drive, but it's working under Linux. Anyone have any ideas as to why the drive is having issues on numerous Windows machines, but not under Linux? I suppose I could use it as a Linux-only flash drive, but it would be nice to have functionality across both Windows and Linux. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. |

I too had a flash drive not long ago that Windows simply quit recognizing and would sometimes also throw some error message I don't recall at the moment. Booting into Linux, the drive was recognized, albeit in a read only mode, which at least allowed me to get the data off it. |
