So I was stupid and wrote my encryption key to my wireless router down on a piece of paper. My 18 month old has either destroyed or lost it. Wouldn't be a big deal but my Ipod Touch suddenly doesn't recognize my network, although I've been using it for at least six months. Is there a pain free way to recover or reset the key? Thanks.

Should be a reset button on the back of your router.  Hold it down for a few seconds and then set up a new password/wep key when you're done.

Instructions do so should be available on the net if you don't know how.

Sweet. I'll try that. I did google the topic but just found a bunch of software downloads that I didn't want to mess with. Thanks.

connect via ethernet, then open the gateway IP in your browser.

You should see the WEP Key there.

My desktop is already connected via ethernet. Can I do this from there?

Okay. I figured out my IP address but I still can't open it up. What am I doing wrong? I'm typing it and hitting enter, but I get the "this page can not be found message".

You have to find out what the gateway address is first.  Open up the command prompt and type ipconfig.  Look for the IPv4 Default Gateway address and type that into a browser.  From there you should be able to login and view/modify your encryption key.

Belkin support site:

There is a link to "restore to factory default" at the bottom of the page, if needed.

To find the IP for the router, bring up a DOS command and type "ipconfig"

You will see a listing for "Default Gateway"

That is the IP address for the router

Try 192.168.2.1  then click on security and you should see the Pre-shared key

Or you could hack it –– takes about 5 minutes.  Had to do that with a work network.  You really should upgrade to WPA2.

+1 on the WPA2.  While you are at it, this is the perfect time to make sure that your router is running the newest firmware for your router.
