My family and I took a trip down and traveled the Loop road
in Big Cypress swamp yesterday. The family counted over 100 gators
and this is amazing because the brush is very thick along
a large portion of the road. Here are a few pics that I took
with my D90.

The top 3 were taken about 15' away the second and third are the same gator, the last one was
taken about 40 feet away.

Maybe I'll rethink my plans to hike through there.

The road I was on is elevated and would take some effort
for them to get to me. I did get down on their level for this pic

Same guy swimming my way before I got down close to the water.

nice pics.
here's a couple that I have taken from up close.
I have been in a kayak face to face with them in Arcadia on the peace river and they will normally let you cruise right by.
they look pretty cool at night too when their eyes light up... Unless one happens to be a mother that has recently had little gators and you happen to stumble upon her nest, then you are F***ed. The male gators on the other hand, will eat their own kids.

We've got them here in my backyard, literally. Once they hit six feet we have them removed.

I like to throw them marsh mellows. Funny thing watching them chew on those things. Other poster was right, way cool at night, hitting the water with a flashlight and seeing those two glowing eyes come right up to you. I can (non exaggerantly) get within 3 feet of them, I just make sure there rear feet are not planted on the pond floor so they can push off / lunge (learned a thing or two about them over the last 4 years).

These guys are about a half hour from downtown Houston.
