what is the best tripod you can get for under $80? i am not going to be using it for anything extreme, just some still portrait type shots every once and a while, but it does need to be able to hold a Nikon d80 w/nikon 70-300VR. i was looking at a sunpak 6600, but know nothing about them. i would also like to get a quik detach mount, so if you could recomend one of those too that would be awesome.

Thanks,
Michael

I have a Sunpak 6060 with a QR plate that I will give you, if you'll cover shipping.

It's in good shape, mainly having been used indoors. No idea as to the specs, though. Hell, I have the same camera/lens, but since I bought a better one for it, have never tried mounting it on this tripod. I'll give it a try and see how it holds.

n/m...After finding it (in the box the Manfrotto came in), I put the mounting plate & the 70-300 lens on my D80 and stuck it on. The whole thing dips about 5 degrees immediately, then slowly creeps downward after that. When I used it with my DSC-H50, it had the initial dip, but no creep; the Nikon's just too heavy for it.

If you're one to haunt garage sales you can often find old but still very servicable tripods there for very little money. My old Velbon cost around $5 or so. I've recently upgraded to a very nice Manfrotto 55xprob and was stunned at the difference it made in images.
