How does this work? can i simply assert that my work is under copyright or is there more to it? any helpful information at all regarding copyright for photos is greatly appreciated. |
Yes, you can simply assert copyright status. Modern US copyright law protects works from the moment of creation. You must register the copyright before suing someone for infringing it, but you do not have to register it for it to be protected. Similarly, notice (putting the little (c) 2007, etc) is not required for protection, although it is obviously a good idea. |

www.copyright.gov/ As soon as you create a photograph it is copyrighted. Registration of a copyrighted work is not a condition of copyright protection but with registration comes certain benefits mainly when it comes to enforcing your copyright when lawyers get involved. |
+1 If you plan on putting your images out there in the public (aside from forums or whatever) register them beforehand. I've had images stolen for use on a CD cover, printed in the newspaper, used as website marketing material, etc. I go after anyone that uses my images w/o permission. |
