What do people think about this camera compared to the D200?

I know they're based on the same body, but it sounds like the Fuji has a better sensor for high ISO and dynamic range.

From what I've read, the resolution is essentially as good as the D200 unless you print large prints (which I won't be doing).

Also, I probably will not be doing much sports photography, so 3fps isn't a big deal to me either.

Get it.  The D200 is great, the only area where it lacks in my opinion is the sensor.

If the S5 is as described, it would make a fantastic body.

Sounds good. I also have a business connection with Fuji, so I might be able to get it (all legit) at employee discount. Still waiting on the final word about that though.

See if you can find some reviews on the camera. I haven't seen anything from the S5 that clearly trumps the D200 in image quality. Then again, IQ is also partially subjective.

count up the Fuji cameras you'll see on an NFL sideline, a National Geographic shoot, and in the hands of photojournalists at every major newspaper in the US.

Multiply that by a 100.

If the resultant number is greater than zero, I'll be shocked.

Now the D200 isn't going to be found in any of those applications either, except as a backup body, but the the pedigree sorta helps.

YMMV
