I'm looking at doing some freelance writing when I graduate and am getting a good, near investment grade camera. I'm pretty set on the Canon EOS 20D but I would be willing to consider other options. I've already got one lens from my Canon film SLR so anything would have to be compatible with that. Appreciate any suggestions. |

1. No digital camera is going to maintain its value. If you mean one that will last you for years, the 20D/30D has proven that its going to hang in there. Lots of people still using the 10D. 2. If you already have lenses stick with that system. The differences aren't that big. 3. What are you going to do with the camera? What you are doing with it will dictate what system works for you. 4. You buy systems, not cameras. The camera body is only a part of the whole system. Do lots of research and try out the various cameras to see how you like them. 5. I love my 30D. |

The only investment that you can make with a camera, is in good images. The best camera in a month isn't going to take good pictures today. I wouldn't recommend spending a ton on a camera body unless you have a good reason to. Should you decide to buy Canon, you would be better off getting a 20D or a 30D NOW, rather than waiting up for the greatest EOS 1D camera later. If you were to get Nikon, getting a D40, or D80 now would be better than a D2Xs in six months or a year. |
