Nikon announced the D610 and it seems not to be generating any real excitement by the bloggers. Nobody knows and Nikon is not saying whether the new shutter for the D610 is the same one that Nikon uses to repair a D600 if it has been sent in more than once, or a NPS customer asks. Sounds likely to me.
Announcement next up for Nikon is apparently the D5300. Rumors are that it gets a sensor upgrade, WiFi and GPS integrated into the body. Finacial Post has an article on the DSLR industry with a quote from an IDC director that Nikon "will not be around in 5 years". The Canon shooters have been saying "see, I told you so" on various forums. The Nikonians have been saying rubbish. I personally think it was a flipped response to highlight the troubles Nikon has. I do expect to see Nikon around in 2018. Finally, a D4x upgrade is back in the rumor mill. Sony -------- A meeting with dealers has been scheduled for Oct. 18th. Rumors has it that this is the dealer announcement for the NEX 9 which is a FX mirror less camera. They will also talk about introductory discounting, incentives/spiff programs, and advertising campaigns. Search Google images for pictures. Also on the rumor block for Sony is a new Alpha 7r which is a mirror less in a DSLR package (sort of) that seems to be oriented in style with the Olympus OM. It has been generating quite the buzz among the Sony Alpha users. There has been lens announcements that are branded Zeiss in the past months and several more to com. Sony is clearly putting effort to establish this line of camera systems. Canon ----------- It seems they are laying low due to the success of the 5D series. However, rumor is back regarding the 7D mark II, but I see Canon in no great rush to bring out a new pro DX body since Nikon seems to show no interest in updating the D300 (rumor to be the D400). |

Here's the link to the Financial Post article on the state of the DSLR market and Nikon's survivability:
http://business.financialpost.com/2013/10/05/point-shoot-collapse-why-big-camera-companies-are-the-next-blackberry/?__lsa=5ff3-ee66 I have a photo of a model with a DSLR and the corresponding Sony Nex 7. However, it appears that it needs to be posted in BOTD due to the CC's here. |
