I have been reading all the threads on how to get started. When we trave we take alot of pictures, the problem is its with a 99 dollar digital camera and they dont look good.I have a nikon cool pix but I want something that is going to make the pics look good. I am looking for something in the 600-800 price range, if possible. I was thinking of something like this to start.

I used a SLR for many years. They are kinda bulky and you may find you avoid carrying them as much due to this bulk. You could miss many photo opportunities because of it.
How old is your Coolpix? I have been using various models for years and they take excellent photos for their size. Maybe you should update to a more recent model. |

Unless your CoolPix is ancient and deteriorated...its not taking shitty pictures. You are.
Seriously, you need to evaluate your skill level before you sink hundreds of dollars in a DSLR. No camera is going to make pictures look good. The closest you will ever get to that is a standard point-and-shoot. |

ok these are some pics I took with the camera.

The barn shot might be helped with a little post processing. The ship shots are suffering from an overcast sky, as any camera would have problems with. In this case the exposure was handled quite well. I think the dog and rifle are cases of missed focus. On the floor instead of the dog; on the blinds instead of the rifle. Both seem to be focused where the center sensor would be, but that is not where the subject is. |
