I finally got a photo small enough to use as an avatar, but it looks crappy and squished. Help

You need to resize it to 175x95 pixels. Your pic is probably the wrong shape for the system to nicely resize it for you.

It could be the size reduction algorithm used to reduce its original size to its maximum avatar size. I think if you post the original (large full sized) picture someone here can use a better algorithm to reduce its size, while maintaining proper aspect ratio and slightly improving picture quality.

Thanks Kekoa! Yours was 24KB (20KB max) so I saved it a little bit smaller and it worked. Much better looking than what I had.

That is the crest I wore way back in 1967 when stationed at Carlisle Barracks - home of the Army War College.
