I plan on it. My daughter graduates this June..I'm not ending up with either under exposed blurry pics or ones with so much noise it looks like a snow storm..

2.8 will help, but don't get too exicted yet!  Like HK940 said, you are going to need more light or everyone stand real still. Now get a high end body with high ISO to low noise ratio and you can do wonders! When I jumped from an XTi to a 5D, it was like jumping from film to digital.  It is amazing what I can do at 1600 ISO on my 5D or 3200 ISO on my 7D compared to my XTi.  This time last year I was shooting with my XTi at my sons graduationi.  This friday I get to try out the 7D with the 70-200 2.8 at my daughters graduation.
What body are you shooting?

I have a good flash as well..I know it won't be perfect due to the lighting conditions and my seating location..but it will be better then the 18-55mm kit lens I used before!

I have a Pentax K110D.

This is the other big reason I bought the lens. My daughter competes in english and western equitation. The biggest competition is held in a rink..mud floor, poor lighting, etc.

That's her on the way to a first place 2 in hand. Her first time with a team.
