Back when I used to play video games...  these were absolutely the best.  Did you know that the original, Arena, is now freeware?  Still fun to play.

Use DOSBox.

I liked Oblivion a lot. Probably played that game for 100+ hours total. I don't actually play many games. I haven't played anything since last Saturday. Just when I do play a game or two I go on a binge.

DOSBox is the greatest thing to ever happen for classic games. Try it out. DOSBox supports sound, joystick, and CD-ROM emulation. You CAN relive those TIE Fighter Glory days once again. I have the old Collector's CD myself. You're making me wanna fire it up! Let me go try it.

I have the following two lines added to the end of my dosbos config file (found in the dosbox start menu list)

[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
mount C D:\Games
mount D G:\ -t cdrom

Where D:\Games is my folder where all of my video games are and G:\ is the drive where the TIECD is located (in this case a daemon tools mounted/emulated ISO file that I made from my original).

Here's a screenshot of it running. You can maximize it to full screen if you want.

oh my...

excuse me I have to clean my PC screen off

seriously though, I gotta try that out tomorrow.  Tie Fighter is hands down one of the BEST PC games of all time in my opinion.

Nothing beats flying for the bad guys.

ok i ran JANES USNF 97 last night...

today I ran Tie Fighter Collectors CD ROM....one problem though, the mouse/joystick controls are all screwed up

it recognizes the joystick, then I start the game up, it asks for me to config it (center, press button, etc), so I do that then it goes to the Pilot Log In screen....now the cursor is going all over the screen and drifting one way, then the other...

somehow its all messed up.  I think I need to disable my mouse for TieFighter to run with my Joystick.

ideas?

It did that to me the first time. I exited and restarted and made sure the stick was completely still and in each corner as I pressed the button. Worked fine after that.

I still think that oblivion is the coolest game ever made.

I know alot of hardcore guys don;t like cause its kinda numbed down but the mods make it the best game cause you can change alot of what you dont like.

whats not to love?
The cookie cutter dungeons, bandits caked in glass, the total lack of stuff to find, the inability to complete any quest without killing something, the total lack of originality, the never-ending level scaling..... and so on and so on. That and all the hype about how it was going to be such a deep and immersive game where everyone would have their own lives and you would be free to do whatever you want. I'm disappointed by all the lies that surrounded the game, most of which were put out by BethSoft.

I loved Morrowind when I was out of work for a while, completely immersed in the world. When Oblivion came out I didn’t have the money to upgrade my computer nor to purchase the 360 so I was SOL. After reading the reviews by people who played the game I opted to wait on picking it up.

I’ll just wait until my brother buys the 360 and pick up a copy of the game and play it then.

I looked all over Dieter, but there were no uber-swords under people's beds, no hidden porn books, no book of fishy sticks. Oh well, if you like it then good. I just wish I hadn't spent a few hundred bucks upgrading my comp for it and then shelled out for the collectors edition.

I did always like the mods though, it was interesting seeing things come out. Especially when they were considered impossible (I'm refering to the community made mods BTW). The official mods weren't terribly impressive, although the one where you find Mehrune's Razor was half decent (even though Mehrune's Razor was already in the game to begin with, it just wasn't used). I never tried the expansions since I figured they would be more of the same.

oblivion was good
the one before it was too, but I never got through it because the journal sucked at keeping track of quests

I want a huge world, gun based FPS using the oblivion engine

Look at BS's new Fallout 3. It will probably be pretty much that. Though it will probably be lacking in all the same ways Oblivion is. Which is no problem if you like OB, but you're SOL if you're like me.

You might register and ask at www.bleepingcomputer.com
Its free, and those guys haven't steered me wrong yet. Usually get a pretty prompt response as well. (Not immediate, but usually next morning at least.)

Oblivion just isn't as good without a combination of realism and enhancement mods running. I run most of the mods in Oscuro's pack. 'Dark' nights and dungeons, a better system of weapons and armor, MUCH improved creature spawning, the need to eat and sleep, no fast travel, etc. It makes the game beyond awesome, IMO.

Be aware, picking the mods you want and applying them will take some time and effort, but its time well spent. Also, most of them aren't made to work with the various official add-on packs. (Which I don't have anyways.)

I need to try Oblivion again when I get the comp umgraded.

I liked Daggerfall for the crimesprees, take out a loan, dont pay it back, kill everyone, bust down the shop door and steal everthing, then go to another province.
