You didn't like the WiiU? We got my son a WiiU last year and he likes it, but I just can't get behind the gigantic control pad. Its kind of like the original Wii was for me... once the novelty wears off (IE, bowling on Wii) I kinda just want to sit down with a normal controller and play something. |
|
Where did all this love and publicity for the Switch come from?
I've been a huge Nintendo fan forever and have noticed a lack in popularity for a while. I thought this system was a dud but all of a sudden yesterday there's tons of press and people ranting and raving about it. I'll be getting one eventually but have no need to get one at launch. Maybe a special Zelda edition if they make one. But seriously, something seems off here... |

Genuinely curious because all the articles I've read don't give definitive answers. I mainly just want to know how the WiiU version of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (which is releasing on the same day) will hold up against the Switch version. |

Wii u pro controller is the answer you seek. The switch will also have a conventional "pro" controller. |

Junk. Maybe i shouldn't be so damning but it seems as if Nintendo is at the forefront of nothing, everything feels about 2 years late. Switch is what the Wii U was supposed to be. They rushed products out. So it probably is about 2 years late. I'm excited, just because of the games coming out for it. Zelda, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, yes! |
|
I had a preorder in my cart ready to go last night with Best Buy, but decided against it after some thought. I'm sold on the system itself but as of now there won't be a game for it that I'm interested in for several months at least. I was hoping it would launch with a solid line up, but I was disappointed with the presentation last night and since I've never been into Zelda games, I just don't see a reason to buy one in the foreseeable future.Â
And I thought 1-2 Switch was a feature of the system or a bundled game like Wii Sports, but no, it's a $60 stand alone gameÂ

The pro controller for it (which is about all I use) is the best current gen controller I've ever used. I hardly use the tablet, using the pro controller with the Zeldas, Kart, MarioBrosU, DonkeyKong (best platformer in the last few years on any console) is a joy. |

The Zelda trailer was amazing. The Mario trailer looked horrible. I'm really torn, I think I'll wait for some launch reviews. Getting Zelda on the WiiU, daughter and I are planning a binge weekend session with it once Prime delivers it on Friday (launch day). That's the only date I was interested in with this whole presentation, when are we getting Zelda Breath Wii U. |

Btw, anyone know if Wii U games will work on the switch? Â I wouldn't mind picking up some of the older Zelda and Mario games. No, the switch will be game carts (like SD cards) much like the 3ds. Not only that, they're not continuing the online system of the WiiU and 3ds, the Miiverse, so they're basically starting over from scratch with their online system, assuming though you can still use your same mynintendo.com account. The WiiU was such a sore spot to them they're trying to totally forget it. Luckily for us WiiU owners we know how many good gems are on it, and that will keep games priced high on ebay. I'm sure Sony and MS's next gens will be not use discs either, flash memory is becoming so much cheaper to reproduce and has about none of the load times that disc systems have. |

I can't imagine they won't eventually bring forward some of their current lineup on flash memory though.  Some games are just too good sellers.  If not, I'd manage. My xbox one elite has a hybrid drive that really cut down on loading times, but I am seeing a trend for background loading content so you don't deal with screens like that.  Hopefully it'll become a lot more prevalent. |
| ive always thought nintendo was brilliant in its own way. its more kid based games with a lot of creativity whereas the market seems to be in adult fps games and online play. ive had every one of their systems for the mario games and some of the zelda games. until the wii u. i picked up a new WII for $50!!! awhile back but now that they pulled this shit and stopped making the wii u it looks like I wont be getting one. |

I'm officially out. Gamestop messed up and cancelled the wrong order. I contacted their online service and they said I'm out of luck. I lost my preorder. I missed out on ordering one of the red and blue ones. I think I am going to hold out until those are available again, even if after the release. Those are sharp. I really hope they make more than one zelda for this thing, or at least maybe an HD dual remake of OoT/Majoras mask. Though I doubt they will do that since they already remade hem for the 3ds. I will get this thing, primarily for Zelda, I just hope I don't look back in a couple of years and see that Breath of the Wild was he only game I really played on it.

Zelda, Mario Kart, Xenoblade, Has-Been Heroes and Super Mario Odyssey is on my want list. |

Meh, wake me up when they release the SNES Classic console that has Contra 3, Chrono Trigger, Zelda 3 link to the past and Final Fantasy 3. I personally think Nintendo makes constant bad decisions. Its almost like they hate making money. Only reason I have a Wii for is the homebrew channel I installed and the ability to play all 1000 NES games I have saved on an SD card. 100% Awesome. |

Nope. It is a lame gimmick. I actually think it is a great idea. For the past couple generations Nintendo was stretched between doing the portable console thing and the home console thing, and due to the popularity of the portable consoles and the fact that the home consoles were generally a generation behind their competitors (hardware wise) the home consoles were, for lack of a better term, was the red headed stepchild of Nintendo. In theory this will allow Nintendo to put all of its focus and efforts onto one platform, as the Switch is (in theory) their portable and their home console. The thing that IS a gimmick is the fact that they seem to be creating an artificial/manufactured shortage of hardware due to the highly limited number of preorders available. I could be wrong, but this reeks a tactic to get it overhyped. I mean, their company their rules, I just don't know what it will accomplish, and I feel like the only people that will benefit from it are second hand sellers. |

So they hype is real. Doesn't mean the system will be great or a success, just means Nintendo's marketing strategy of creating a huge demand and supplying little units is working. |

Must be nice. I missed the preorder boat.
I went to gamestop the other day just to browse around on a longer than usual lunchbreak, and I asked the guys there if they heard anything on availability of consoles for those who did not preorder. They said their Nintendo rep had said something about "hopefully April." Kind of disappointing, but whatever. My birthday is in May, so now my goal will just be to hopefully get one for myself for my birthday. |
|
Nintendo could sell a turd wrapped in tin foil and people would buy it.
The last Nintendo product I've owned was the Gamecube, and none of their consoles since have looked remotely interesting to me. I really question how many people will actually use the switch's "portability" besides playing Zelda while taking a dump |

We're not getting the Switch until version 2 which is probably 2018, there will inevitably be issues with the first version, complaints, improvements to be made and Nintendo will release a new version probably a year from now, there is nothing I'm overly excited about on the Switch lineup this year, except maybe Splatoon 2. But I can wait. In the meantime we're just waiting for Zelda WiiU to be delivered on Friday via Prime. |

Everyone felt the same with the "new" 3ds XL, most had already bought the 3ds XL and shortly after that the new version released, with features and games that locked out the 3ds XL owners. I treat most Nintendo products like Apple products, never buy the first version of a new piece of their hardware. |

I treat most Nintendo products like Apple products, never buy the first version of a new piece of their hardware. That is disheartening, but very understandable and it is making me reevaluate. I am trying to go to the new zelda as blind as possible. The things I know about the game is that it is supposed to be massive, and has a skyward sword-ish art style. From what you have heard, only talking about the technical aspects of the game, will the wii u and the switch versions be the same experience? A new zelda is a BIG deal for me..and I just want to make sure that when I do get to play it I get the best experience possible. You make some very valid points on being Leary of gen 1 of the switch, granted I will play mine exclusive in home console mode, but now I am considering possibly getting zelda on the wii u. It is just that zelda seems to be, anymore, more or less once a decade for home console releases, and if I do get it on the wii u, I don't want to get shorted. |
|
Yes, from what I've heard it's the exact same game, with some slight differences in graphics. Similar to Twilight on Gamecube and Wii, the Wii had a slight edge in graphics but it was hardly noticeable. Everyone who has played the WiiU version says it's amazing looking and there is no indication that the 2 versions differ in any way other than draw distance and framerates.
There's a lot of good side-by-sides now of both games playing and you can see the differences, but it doesn't (to me anyway) diminish the game at all. If you have a WiiU get the WiiU version, and wait out the Switch to see how it does. |
|
Well, I stand corrected, seems to be significant differences in graphics, having said that I'm not canceling my pre-order.

GC and 64 didn't to my knowledge, unless you consider the game boy advance attachment for the GC. Wii had 3 versions actually released, the final being the smallest. Wii U I'm not totally sure what the differences in the versions were. There's no doubt Nintendo will release an updated version to this console probably after a year. |

Will be fall before I can afford one though.Â
