Hey guys, at some point in the not so near future I'll be replacing my aging gaming PC (AMD Phenom II 935 Black/GTX460).
I just tried steam's new game streaming feature with my current hardware and "The Wolf Among Us," and was getting slow encode even @ 720p, so I'm figuring the CPU is the bottle neck. While I'm considering a new build, does anyone have any insight as to processors that would fit the role well? Right now, I'm considering i5 4570 or AMD FX 8320, but if i7 would help game streaming, I can delay the build further until I save up more. Ideally, I'd like to be able to stream at 1080p. Thoughts? |

I'm a cordcutter, so I stream 1080p all over the house without a hitch, and my network will be upgraded to CAT6 at some point. Either way, I don't believe it's the network.
Valve doesn't seem to want to recommend any specs, but to be fair the only people on the forums complaining are folks with ancient CPUs, like myself. My gaming budget is pretty tight, so I'd rather not spring for the i7 unless I absolutely have to. |
