Looking for a decent headset for PC gaming.

Don't want a 20 dollar walmart cheapy, but don't wanna spend $400 bucks either.

What do you guys recomend?

Id love to know, too! Thinking USB so it works as its own sound card and potentially something rocking 5.1 surround (as best a headset can get) like the Santa Cruz.

Look into Sennheiser.  I used to rock a pair of HD570s and they were awesome.

hd570

They are discontinued so I think it's like hd558 or hd595 in that range now for a new model:

hd558
hd595

I didn't want anything with a mic connected so I got their little neck mic m@m 40:

The upside to that I figure is if the mic or the phones die you only have to replace one thing and not both.  Also you can use the mic with a regular speakers system and not have a stupid headset on.

I recently picked up a Soundblaster Tactic 3d Alpha...about $60, damn nice. The earcups deaden outside noise so much I can only hear my own voice as it sounds through my head (kinda like when underwater or ears are popping).

Has the dual jacks, as well as a USB adapter. Mic is detachable.

I've been eyeing the Logitech G35 Surround Sound Headset but I'm not sure if I want to drop $130 bucks on headset though that might "suck". I wear glasses and I've had problems in the passed with headsets giving me headaches because they put too much pressure on the arms to the glasses, or smash my ears into my skull, or in the case with shooting headphones my glasses won't sit right and I can't see straight.

I use separates. Usb desktop Logitech Mic and a comfortable set of Sony headphones that fit me well. Many more choices out there for headphones then that are comfortable to you.

I have the same problem with  it smashing my ears into my skull...hurts like a mother when you take the headset off...i think my set does it even when i take my glasses off. So i need to find a good set too.

Seriously try a pair of sennheisers.  The ear cups are covered in this velour kind of deal.  You barely notice they are on.

As someone who also wears glasses, I would also suggest you use a circumaural set, where the ear cups go totally around the ear.  In fact, they don't rest on the ears at all; they rest on your skull like a pair of shooting muffs.  the "supra-aural" ones that sit on top of your ear get very uncomfortable for me.

I got a pair of the Logitech G35s. I have mixed feelings about them so far and I'm in a wait and see mode if I'm going to take them back or not.

For starters they are heavy compared to my old clearchat set. This could just take a little bit to get used to. The clearchats have no weight at all and the G35s have a bit of substance to them. This could be like wearing a BUG on an ankle rig for the first time. Over time I might not even notice them there.

Second while the ear pices fit around my ears without any problems they do put pressure on the frames of my glasses(specifically behind the ear) which causes discomfort, if I feng shui the ear cups just right I can elimiate the pressure at the back of my ears somewhat but I still have the problem with my glasses coming off axis and "locked into position"and my field of veiw gets messed up. In other words it seems I'm having the same problems with these as I do with shooting ear muffs.

The Upside, the G35s do a great job at keeping the outside noise down. I can run the fan on my Radeon 5870 at 100% and not notice it. That sucker sounds like a leave blower when at full throttle.

As for how they sound. I'm still playing around with that. There is definatly more base compared to my old set and the elimiated of background noise helps alot but I'm having some issues with surround sound in Battlefield 2:PR (if in SS mode I can't hear VOIP at times). I'm still looking for a surround sound test to see how these function when the source is in 5.1, 7.1 and stereo.
